INRAE-LESSEM and the University of Grenoble Alpes (UGA) participated and presented the TranStat project at two important events that were held in August and October 2023. Here is a short summary of the two activities that supported and disseminated the Interreg Alpine Space project: the 62nd ERSA Congress 2023 and the 40th Summer Sports University of Grenoble.
62nd ERSA Congress 2023
On the 29th of August 2023, Emmanuelle George and Raffaella Balzarini from Univ-Grenoble-Alpes/INRAE-LESSEM and Véronique Reynier from Univ-Grenoble-Alpes/PACTE participated at the 62nd European Regional Science Association (ERSA) Congress. Within this framework, the TranStat project was presented by the French Partners in the remote session called Regional transitions: Adaptation and transformations in the tourism sector, under the title: The challenges of carrying out community design for transition projects in mountain resorts – the example of the TranStat project.
The dissemination of the project focused on the participatory approaches set up by transdisicplinary research to define transition solutions to ensure a viable and inclusive future for mountain resorts in the context of climate change. Indeed, this objective is not easy to achieve, due to the presence in mountain resorts of a diversity of actors with varied and sometimes divergent interests, and also due to the lack of a reference framework for action on transition. In view of this finding, which is shared at the Alpine Arc level, transition support programs are emerging and are being implemented through transnational projects.
The TranStat project was presented in this context, since it brings academics and stakeholders, including citizens, to work together in 10 mountain resorts, called Living Labs (LLs). Indeed, the LLs are pilot sites where participatory and inclusive approaches, future scenarios and co-constructed solutions are tested at the local scale in order to be then implemented at the alpine scale. The communication focused on the LLs setting-up and their monitoring framework, which represents a crucial step in the project’s methodology.

40th Summer Sports University of Grenoble
On the 6th of October 2023, the TranStat project was presented by Emmanuelle George and Raffaella Balzarini from Univ-Grenoble-Alpes/INRAE-LESSEM and Véronique Reynier and Mathieu Schoendoerffer from Univ-Grenoble-Alpes/PACTE at the 40th Summer Sports University in Grenoble, Sports and ecological transitions: realities and perspectives?
The French partners introduced the TranStat project in the session called National and European Outlook. They presented the context of the European programs to which TranStat belongs, the national dimensions in which the methodologies are being put in place and their transposition to the Alpine range. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of research in studying winter sports practices and more specifically on TranStat’s value in facilitating the implementation of transition processes in mountain resorts.
