Festa de lo Pan 2023: for the lovers of history, textile, and bread

Oct 5, 2023

October 14th, Poschiavo and across the Alps of France, Italy, Slovenia, and Switzerland.

The 8th edition of the Festa de Lo Pan Ner is around the corner. Organized by Regione Autonoma Valle d’Aosta, Regione Lombardia, and Polo Poschiavo with the participation of Musei Valposchiavo and the communication support of BELLISSIMO, the Poschiavo initiative celebrates the making of the traditionally dark rye bread (Pan Ner literally translates to “black bread”) as a precious form of intangible cultural heritage from the Alpine Region.

For the Festa, over 100 communities from Valle d’Aosta, Lombardy, Piedmont, Grigioni, Savoy, and Upper Gorenjska will operate their ovens simultaneously and bake the rye bread, opening the doors to a series of collateral activations, too.

As for Poschiavo, AlpTextyles is supporting Musei Valposchiavo in setting up a special addition to the tour of Casa Tomé (a rare example of perfectly-preserved Swiss rural home) by inviting visitors to discover the coperta poschiavina at the Tessitura, the local handweaving lab that attended our #MeetingTheCommunities.

It will be a chance to revive the typical local handwoven blanket that each family used to create with signature colors while following the standard fishbone and striped pattern.
