AlpSatellites project started in September 2022. The small-scale project aims at analyzing opportunities and challenges of telecommuting and co-working in order to attract and integrate young people, workers and digital nomads in rural and mountain areas.
The project has six partners: the Unité des Communes valdôtaines Evançon, the Association Culturelle Sociale et Sportive du Queyras (ACSSQ) and the Municipality of Gemeinde Doren are the territorial partners while the University of Valle d’Aosta, the Aix-Marseille University (AMU) and the FHV University are the academic partners.
The academic partners have been carrying out the qualitative-quantitative research on alpine citizens’ perception of pros and cons of remote working and co-working. The research also investigates the types of services needed to make telecommuting sustainable for the mountain communities. The territorial partners, which are interested in attracting new residents, are mobilizing the local stakeholders to co-create remote working ecosystems where a person can go virtual and enjoys the quality of life in the Alps.
The Unité Evançon, gathering 10 municipalities in Valle d’Aosta, gives services for citizens from the all 10 areas; the French ACSSQ works on the whole area of the Community of Municipalities of Guillestrois and Queyras and it has a wide range of activities from early children to elderly. The municipality of Doren is a touristic area in Austria, aiming at implementing residential inhabitants.
The AMU is a university in the South of France and it has 80.000 students and nearly 8.000 employees; the Austrian FHV research is focused on five strategic domains: Energy, Microtechnology, User Centred Technologies, Business Informatics, Social & Economic Sciences. The italian University of Valle d’Aosta is the Lead partner of AlpSatellites project; it works in an international setting and collaborates with many other academic structures in the French- and English-speaking areas. It offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the areas of languages, education, economics, psychology and international relations.
