On 13 January 2021 was organised the Mountain Biodiversity Day 2021, an event hosted by the outgoing French Presidency of the Alpine Convention in cooperation with the French Presidency of EUSALP and coordinated by ALPARC, the Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention and the Secretariat of the Carpathian Convention as well as the United Nations Environment Programme.
Mountain Biodiversity Day 2021
The event was an opportunity to reflect on the current trends and challenges faced by mountain areas, recall the importance of protecting global mountain biodiversity as well as present best-practice examples and solutions from different regions.
On this occasion, several Interreg Alpine Space projects (AlpBioNet2030, AlpES, Links4Soils, GreenRisk4Alps) have been identified in the different thematic sessions dedicated to the Alps. Their contribution to the current state of knowledge in diverse fields (ecological connectivity, maintenance and management of ecosystems services, natural risk mitigation) was notably brought to the attention of an audience composed of experts and various representatives of mountain regions coming from all over the world.
