Interreg projects and Alpine tourism: a special event in Salzburg

Nov 22, 2023

No doubt, Interreg projects are an important instrument for regional development in general and the tourism sector in particular. This is why representatives from across Austria gathered on 21 November 2023 in Salzburg to exchange about the hands-on results and products of tourism-related Interreg projects during the conference “Tourism valorisation of cross-border EU projects in the Alpine Space”.

Organised by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Labour and Economy, Innovation Salzburg and Paracelsus Medical University, the event was opened by significant contributions: Brigitta Pallauf (President of Salzburg’s Regional Parliament), Ulrike Rauch Keschmann (Head of the Tourism Section, Federal Ministry of Labour and Economy), Bernhard Lehofer (Innovation Salzburg), Prof. Wolfgang Sperl (Rector of Paracelsus Medical University). As highlighted in the opening speech by Brigitta Pallauf, President of Salzburg’s regional parliament:

“Thanks to cooperation we’re not merely navigating challenges.
We’re shaping the future of Alpine tourism, with a focus on resilience, regionality and a commitment to quality.”

21 selected Interreg projects, including the Alpine Space projects Beyond Snow, HEALPS2, Linking Alps, SaMBA, Smart Altitude, TranStat, presented outputs and results, showing how these can be used in the tourist sector all over the Alps. The main topics included cultural, nature and health tourism, accessibility, mobility, digitalisation, climate change, skilled workers and sustainable destination development. In addition to practical input and inspiration, the event offered space for discussion and networking.
